Sacred Heart Hospital Hospitalists
What is a hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a doctor of medicine (usually an internist), who specializes in caring for you while you are in the hospital.
A hospitalist acts as your primary doctor while you are inpatient and is in frequent contact with your primary care physician – whether your admission is planned or an emergency.
Why would I see a hospitalist in the hospital rather than my primary care physician?
It is difficult for your primary care physician to see patients in the office and the hospital at the same time. Our hospitalist program helps make sure you get the attention you need in the hospital, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What if I don’t have a primary care physician?
The Sacred Heart hospitalists and other staff at the hospital can assist you in finding a doctor to see you after you leave the hospital and send them records regarding your admission.
After you are discharged, you may receive a patient satisfaction survey from Press Ganey, the vendor that compiles patient satisfaction information for our hospital. We encourage you to please complete and return the survey, so that we may continue to improve our services based on your feedback.
