Richard T. Martin, M.D.
Director of Geriatric Medicine Residency
Associate Director of Sacred Heart Family Medicine Residency
Dr. Martin joined the faculty at Sacred Heart Hospital in 2000, after many years of private practice and teaching in Canada, North Dakota and Minnesota. Just prior to becoming a facility member at Sacred Heart Hospital, he taught at Michigan State University’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Kalamazoo, where he was also the Director of Geriatrics. In 1980, Dr. Martin completed his medical school and residency at the University of Manitoba, Canada, serving as Chief Resident. He has received a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatrics in 1992. Dr. Martin has been the Director of Sacred Heart Hospital’s Geriatric Medicine Residency Program since its inception. He has three times received the Family Medicine Residents “Teacher of the Year” award at this facility, and three times at Michigan State University. His clinical interests include urinary incontinence, osteoporosis, and nursing home care.
Daniel M. Coller, M.D.
Associate Director of Geriatric Medicine Residency,
Assistant Director of Sacred Heart Family Medicine Residency
Dr. Coller joined the faculty at Sacred Heart Hospital in 2004, after 30 years as a faculty member and director of geriatric education for the Harrisburg Family Medicine Residency Program. While at that location, he was honored as “Teacher of the Year” several times. Dr. Coller has served as the Chairman of the Credentials and Bylaws Committees at the Pinnacle Health System in Harrisburg, as well as Chairman of the Family Medicine Department and as a member of the Board of Directors. After completing his undergraduate studies at Penn State University, State College, PA, Dr. Coller received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. He completed a Family Medicine residency at Harrisburg Hospital. In 1990, Dr. Coller received his Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. Dr. Coller acts also as the Medical Director of the Sacred Heart Hospital’s Hospice Program. His clinical interests include geriatrics, end-of-life care, evidence-based medicine, and in-patient care.
Edward K. Wikoff, M.D.
Faculty Associate of Geriatric Medicine Residency
Dr. Wikoff is the Clinical Director of Moss Rehabilitation at Sacred Heart Hospital since November, 1999. He is an amputee rehabilitation specialist and is active in the Regional Amputee Center. His areas of clinical and research interest include gait biomechanics and the effects of prosthetic/orthotic devices on the biomechanics of gait. He also served as a clinical instructor for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Temple University School of Medicine in 1985. While at Temple University, he received the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Award for his short-term research traineeship. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dawn’C Wilkes, M.D.
Faculty Associate of Geriatric Medicine Residency and Family Medicine Residency
After prior careers as a teacher and a nurse, Dr. Wilkes received her medical degree from Spartan Health Services School of Medicine in St. Lucia. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital. She received her B.S. in education from Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, Ohio and her B.S. in nursing from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She joined the Family Medicine Residency faculty in 1999, after working in private practice for a number of years. In 2000, Sacred Heart Family Medicine residents acknowledged her as their “Teacher of the Year”. Dr. Wilkes is the medical director of the Sacred Heart Hospital’s Wound Care Center.
H. Donald Wills, M.D.
Chief of Neurology and Director of the Memory Disorder Center
Dr. Wills is the chief of the Division of Neurology at Sacred Heart Hospital since August 1996. He is also the director of the Hospital’s Memory Disorder Center. After completing his undergraduate studies at Ursinus College, he attended medical school at Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Wills completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lehigh Valley Hospital. After completion of that program, he entered and completed the Neurology residency program at Albany Medical Center. His areas of clinical and research interest include movement disorders, dementia and memory loss. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Farhad Sholevar, M.D.
Psychiatric physician
Dr. Sholevar obtained his medical degree in 1979 at Teheran University. His Psychiatric Residency Training was undertaken at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He has been in practice in the Lehigh Valley since 1988 serving on the medical staffs of Lehigh Valley Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital; where he is the Medical Director of the Older Adult Behavioral Medicine Center. He has also maintained an active private practice of psychiatry. Dr. Sholevar has extensive experience in the medical diagnosis and treatment of geriatric psychiatry and its accompanying problems.
Jose R. Garcia, M.D. F.A.C.P.
Medical Director of the Transitional Care Facility and Diabetes Center
Dr. Garcia is a board-certified Internist and Geriatrician and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians who received his B.S. degree from Drexel University and his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. In 1981, after completing his Internal Medicine residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital, he established his private practice at Sacred Heart Hospital. He is Medical Director of Sacred Heart Hospital’s Transitional Care Facility and takes great pride in being a teaching physician in Sacred Heart Hospital’s Geriatric Medicine Residency Program. In 2000, he was honored with the “Attending Physician of the Year” Award. In addition to serving as the Medical Director of Sacred Heart Hospital’s Diabetes Center, he is Chair on both the hospital’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Continuing Medical Education Committee. In March of 2000, he became a Certified Instructor in Education for Physicians in End of Life Care. His special clinical interests include: hypertension, diabetes, and the preoperative evaluation of the non-cardiac surgical patient.
Victor J. Powers, M.D.
Geriatrician-Internal Medicine
Dr. Powers is a board-certified Internist who received his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey. Dr. Powers completed his undergraduate studies at LaSalle College in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lehigh Valley Hospital in 1984 and joined the private practice of Jose R. Garcia, M.D. at Sacred Heart Hospital the same year. He has served on the hospital’s Credentials and Medical Executive Committees.
Melissa V. Shiner, PharmD, MS
Faculty of Geriatric Medicine Residency
Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator
Melissa Shiner joined the faculty of Sacred Heart Hospital in 2004 as Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator after several years of experience being a clinical pharmacist. Her interests include both geriatrics and pediatrics. She obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy at Temple University School of Pharmacy in Philadelphia. Dr. Shiner completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center where she served as a member of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee and Medical Safety Subcommittee. She also has a Master of Science in Health Administration, Bachelor of Science in Pre-medicine, Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and is a certified Medical Technologist (ASCP). Dr. Shiner is a member of Mideast and Southeast Chapters of Pennsylvania Society of Health System Pharmacists (PSHP), American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) and American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
