In 1936, Sacred Heart Hospital was the first Lehigh Valley hospital to open a cancer center. As technology advanced, we were the first to bring advanced treatment to the region, including high-dose rate brachytherapy (HDR) in 1996, out-patient implant therapy for gynecologic cancer in 1997, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) in 1998 and partial breast irradiation (PBI) in 2002.
The Center for Cancer Care is fully licensed by the PA State Department of Health and accredited by the American College of Radiologists for Mammography, The American College of Surgeons and the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) for cancer programs.
Sacred Heart Hospital’s Center of Cancer Care is proudly affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
