ATTENTION DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER
TREATMENT PROGRAM

Tthe AD/HD Program
A pattern of inattentive, hyperactive, or impulsive behavior that starts early in life and continues through development, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) can impair a child's academic achievement, social functioning, and self-esteem.

The complexity of AD/HD and other conditions causing attention difficulties demands a comprehensive evaluation process. Experienced clinicians must examine potential causes to confirm or rule out a diagnosis of AD/HD. The program at Sacred Heart provides complete evaluation and treatment planning services to Lehigh Valley families. A multidisciplinary professional team with personal interest and expertise in AD/HD conducts the evaluations. We work closely with schools and caregivers to ensure accurate impressions of each child's strengths and difficulties and to create successful treatment plans.

Written reports communicate our findings and recommendations. We review outcomes and address questions at follow-up family conferences. We are dedicated to providing services fitted to the needs of each child and family. Our goal is to help patients and families accurately identify AD/HD and successfully manage related issues

AD/HD Evaluation Services
Patients in the Sacred Heart Hospital AD/HD Program complete the comprehensive evaluation during a single four-hour visit. Assessments are conducted in a friendly, relaxed setting.

Pediatrics
Patients receive a full medical evaluation, including review of family and medical history, physical examination and diagnostic lab work.

Psychology
While their child is assessed nearby, caregivers complete a diagnostic interview. Child assessments include a clinical interview, measures of intellectual ability, and academic achievement, and measures of psychological function.

Audiology
To evaluate hearing and auditory processing abilities, we administer a full battery of hearing tests. This helps to identify difficulties which may mask of mimic the symptoms of AD/HD.

Referrals and Appointments
When you contact the AD/HD Program, the program coordinator will collect general information and answer your questions about our program. Next you will receive an information package to be completed by the family and school personnel. This package must be completed and returned to the AD/HD program coordinator before evaluations are scheduled.

Evaluations take approximately four hours and are scheduled in the morning by appointment. Family conferences (45 minutes each) are scheduled several weeks after the evaluation to share assessment results and treatment recommendations with parents.
