Epworth Sleepiness Scale

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is a subjective measure of your sleepiness and can help determine the severity of your sleep complaint.

Epworth Sleepiness Scale
How likely are you to doze off or fall asleep in the following situations, in contrast to just feeling tired? If you have not done some of these activities recently, determine how likely it is you would doze off or fall asleep if you did perform them. Use the following scale to choose the most appropriate number for each situation:
0 = would never doze
1 = slight chance of dozing
2 = moderate chance of dozing
3 = high chance of dozing

Sitting and reading
Watching TV
Sitting inactive in a public place
Sitting as a passenger in a car for an hour without a break
Lying down in the afternoon
Sitting and talking to someone
Sitting quietly after lunch (no alcohol)
Stopped for a few minutes in traffic while driving

Total score: ______

The total score is the addition of all 8 answers. A total score less than 10 is considered normal. If your total score is more than 10, you may have a sleep disorder. Discuss your score with your doctor to see if a sleep study may be appropriate for you.
