MossRehab at Sacred Heart Hospital Celebrated
ALLENTOWN, PA – MossRehab at Sacred Heart Hospital celebrated 10 years of excellence and partnership with Sacred Heart by hosting an Open House on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in MossRehab’s Dining Room on the 2nd floor of the hospital. Among the attendees were the general public, Sacred Heart Hospital employees, family, and friends. Refreshments, activities, and education were provided. Attendees “walked in patients’ shoes” by experiencing a typical patient’s stay at MossRehab by going through stations set up in the dining room that mimicked a physical therapy session, an occupational therapy session, a psychosocial assessment, discharge planning, and more.
For the 16th year, MossRehab, part of the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading rehabilitation facilities in the 2009-2010 U.S. News & World Report magazine survey of “America’s Best Hospitals.” MossRehab ranks 15th on a list of just 23 rehabilitation hospitals named as best in their specialty for the most challenging cases and procedures, based on selections by board-certified physicians
For this year’s rankings, U.S. News screened 4,861 medical centers overall, examining how well institutions do in complex and demanding situations. The magazine also ranked hospitals in 16 specialties; only 174 hospitals scored high enough to be ranked in even one of those specialties. Rehabilitation medicine was one of only four medical specialties ranked whose outcome was based solely on reputation. The survey, conducted by RTI International in Triangle Park, N.C., involved a sampling of specialists randomly selected from a national database of physicians.
Because of its comprehensive range of rehabilitative services, a clinical and research team of world-class experts in rehabilitation medicine, and the achievement of superior functional outcomes for patients, MossRehab has earned a global reputation for comprehensive clinical rehabilitation and research programs, with a special focus on medical and cognitive rehabilitation and problems with movement.
MossRehab recently announced it is the exclusive site for U.S. clinical trails of ReWalk™, the first commercially viable upright device that enables paralyzed individuals to stand, walk, and climb stairs. The trials are being led by Alberto Esquenazi, M.D., Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MossRehab, who was also instrumental in the development of ReWalk.
U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Hospitals” is a popular resource for consumers looking for data and rankings for high quality health care across the nation. For complete survey information, see the magazine’s current “America’s Best Hospitals” issue at www.usnews.com/besthospitals.
