Sacred Heart Hospital Honors Volunteers

ALLENTOWN – On April 24, 2009, the Sacred Heart Hospital’s Board of Directors and Administration honored the 135 Sacred Heart Hospital volunteers who completed over 32,000 hours of service from March 2008 – April 2009. A celebration luncheon was held at The Winding Brook to acknowledge volunteers for individual hour achievements and years of dedicated service.

A highlight of this year’s ceremony was the presentation of the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards to 14 volunteers. The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation was established in 2003 to recognize the valuable contribution volunteers make in our communities and how they encourage more people to serve. The President’s Volunteer Service Award program was created as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. This was the first presentation of this award to Sacred Heart Hospital volunteers and acknowledged those who have reached a certain standard, measured by the number of hours of service over the course of a lifetime.

Sacred Heart Hospital is proud to announce that 14 volunteers have been designated as 2009 recipients of this prestigious award: Eleanor Burnatowski, Grace Christ, Julie Feichtel, Teresa Galm, Sarah Hanna, Al Kane, Helen Kmetz, Elizabeth Lester, Teresa Locher, Agnes Malloy, Dorothy Rehrig, Nadine Stoneback, Laura Titman, and Blanche Vorcheck.

These volunteers received a certificate from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, a letter from the President, and a gold lapel pin. In addition, they each received a certificate of achievement from US Representative Charles Dent and a certificate from State Senator Pat Browne.
