Sacred Heart Hospital Welcomes Neuropsychiatrist

ALLENTOWN – Sacred Heart Hospital is proud to welcome Adnan Zawawi, M.D., a neuropsychiatrist, to our staff.

Dr. Zawawi earned an undergraduate degree in General Science in 1971 from Riyad University (now King Saud University) in Saudi Arabia. He later graduated summa cum laude from Riyad University School of Medicine in 1976.

After completing an internship at Riyad University School of Medicine and serving on staff at the Riyad University School of Medicine Maternity Hospital, Dr. Zawawi took several preparatory courses for necessary exams at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia and then completed an internship in internal medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia in 1982. He completed a residency program at Norristown State Hospital in Norristown in 1985.

Dr. Zawawi served as an attending physician at Norristown State Hospital from 1985 – 1988, where he was the Assistant Director of the Intensive Care Unit, taught residents, and consulted for psychiatric patients. He completed a fellowship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1989 and served as a Consultation Liaison in Psychiatry. He completed residency programs in Neurology at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia in 1992 and at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia in 1993. From 1994 – 1997, Dr. Zawawi served in private practice in neurology and psychiatry in Valley Forge and provided consultation services for Phoenixville Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Zawawi has served as an instructor and professor at Norristown State Hospital, the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Temple University, and DeSales University. He currently maintains an office at KidsPeace Hospital in Orefield and a private practice in Easton.

He is a member of the American Neuropsychiatric Association, the American Academy of Neurology, and the Academy of Neuroscience. He is board certified in Neurology, Psychiatry, Neuropsychiatry, and Behavioral Neurology, and he is an American Board of Disability Analyst Senior Diplomate. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia.
