Sacred Heart Welcomes Peter G. Schweyer

Peter G. Schweyer has recently been appointed as the Director of Government and Community Relations for Sacred Heart Hospital, a 219-bed hospital located in Center City Allentown.  In this role, he will oversee the hospital’s community outreach, manage government grants and manage relationships with elected and appointed governmental officials. 

Schweyer currently serves as a member of Allentown City Council and previously held the position of Council President after serving as Vice President.  On City Council, Schweyer serves as Chairperson of the Community and Economic Development Committee. He is a voting member of the Parks and Recreation and the Rules, Chambers, Intergovernmental Relations and Strategies Committees. He also serves as Council’s Representative on the Blighted Property Review Board

Prior to his employment with Sacred Heart Hospital, Schweyer served as Chief of Staff to State Representative Jennifer L. Mann for approximately eight years.  He had previously served as Legislative Assistant for State Senator Lisa M. Boscola and State Representative Steve Samuelson. He was also a school teacher in West Philadelphia in 2000.

Schweyer serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA), having been appointed by Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham. In July of 2010, he was elected Chair of the LANTA Board. 

Additionally, he served as an alternate member of the Allentown Zoning Board in 2007 and was a member of Mayor Ed Pawlowski's transition team in 2005.

He was born and raised in Allentown, where he graduated from Central Catholic High School. Afterwards, he went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree with Honors in Political Science from the Pennsylvania State University, State College. He also studied Elementary Education at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia on the post-graduate level.

In his community, he has served as a volunteer in the Allentown School District through Junior Achievement and was previously the head baseball coach for Mountainville Memorial Youth Association. In addition, he serves as an Ex-Officio Member of the Civic Theatre and Mayfair. 

Lastly, he was awarded a Lehigh Valley 20 Under 40 by the Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal in 2011. 

Schweyer lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their daughters, Sarah and Erin, in South Allentown.
