Lung & Respiratory Services
Respiratory Care Department at Sacred Heart HealthCare System offers a variety of non-invasive diagnostic testing to determine the progression of certain lung conditions such as asthma or emphysema. By assessing lung volumes, capacities, rates of flow, and gas exchange, pulmonary function testing enables your physician to evaluate your breathing, diagnose your condition, recommend appropriate treatment, and evaluate your progress.
Testing is offered in a state-of-the-art laboratory by a certified pulmonary function therapist, and tests are interpreted by a board certified pulmonologist.

- Simple spirometry
- Pre- and post-bronchodilator studies
- Body plethyography
- Diffusion capacities
- Lung volumes
- Arterial blood gases
- Bronchial challenge
- Exercise-induced asthma
- Home oxygen therapy evaluation
- Sputum induction for diagnostic purposes
- Tobacco cessation and asthma education
Cardiovascular services include:
- Electrocardiogram (EKG)
- Holter monitoring
- Cardiac event monitoring

Pulmonary function tests can be ordered by your primary care physician or specialist by calling One Call Scheduling at 610-776-5180. Specific instructions will be given to you about how to prepare for your test when your appointment is scheduled.
