One-Day Childbirth Preparation

American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course

Sacred Heart Hospital partners with the American Red Cross to provide this one-day course for youth ages 11-15. This one-day class will teach participants how to perform first aid; identify common safety hazards; choose safe, age-appropriate toys and games; perform basic care routines like diapering, feeding and dressing; handle bedtime issues and find and interview for babysitting jobs. Stumbling Blocks

Second Floor Conference Center
Sacred Heart Bariatric Services introduces Stumbling Blocks, an intensive six-week program that addresses barriers to successful weight loss and maintenance after Bariatric surgery. Participation will get you back on track to success with accountability, encouragement, support and resources to succeed and maintain your lifestyle journey. Space is limited to 10 people per session and payment must be received to hold a spot. You must be at least 18 months post-Bariatric surgery and struggling with weight regain or falling short of your goal. For more information, please call 610-776-4537.

The First Step: Understanding Breast Cancer

Sacred Heart Hospital and Highmark Blue Shield have partnered to provide KidShape, a family-based pediatric weight management program for families with overweight children ages 6 to 14. Learn how to reduce your risk for diabetes by participating in this community diabetes prevention program. Diabetes Education Classes
Morning, afternoon and evening classes available

The Self-Management Diabetes Education Program provides ten hours of instruction in an informal group class setting. Participants are instructed on blood glucose monitoring, diet control, medications, exercise and stress management. Individual patient consultations are also available as needed. The class instruction – in English or Spanish – is based on the American Association of Diabetes National Standards for Diabetes Management. Instructed by a Sacred Heart Hospital exercise physiologist, this class is intended to assist individuals in controlling their diabetes. Classes include light to moderate cardiovascular and resistance training. Prior exercise training is not required. A physician referral is necessary. Join Dick Snyder, certified lifeguard and aquatics instructor, and exercise the fun way in chest-deep warm water. Laryngectomy Support Group
First and third Fridays of every month; 9 – 10 a.m.
Second-floor Conference Center
This support group is for people who have had a laryngectomy (removal of larynx) and their family/caregiver. Support group members talk about their experiences following surgery and their abilities to communicate after surgery. Breathing Buddies Support Group
Second Thursday of every month; 12:30 p.m.
Visiting Nurses Association
The Breathing Buddies support group, designed for oxygen users, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) patients and their caregivers, meets the second Thursday of the month at the Visiting Nurses Association, Devonshire Towers III, 2268 South 12th Street, Allentown. The Comprehensive Wound Healing Center at Sacred Heart
Healing should come naturally but sometimes, due to complications from diabetes, poor circulation or other infections, the healing process can be slow or difficult which can result in wounds that won’t heal. At the Comprehensive Wound Healing Center at Sacred Heart Hospital, we offer a full spectrum of clinical services for the treatment of chronic wounds including our new oxygen therapy. The sleep specialists at Sacred Heart Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center are trained to diagnose and treat sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome.
