The Emergency Department at Sacred Heart Hospital is a specialized department designed for patients with acute illnesses or injuries. The physicians, nurses, and staff in the Emergency Department are specially trained to care for emergency conditions.
The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and accepts all patients. We understand that visiting the Emergency Department is not an enjoyable experience, but it may help to know how the Emergency Department operates and what you can expect to happen while you are here.
Under a special collaboration, emergency specialists from Lehigh Valley Health Network treat patients in Sacred Heart’s Emergency Department and work closely with referring physicians and Sacred Heart’s nurses, technicians and staff.
Operationally, clinical- and evidence-based protocols provide more seamless emergency services. Team-based protocols have been developed for many conditions, including but not limited to pneumonia, stroke and chest pain. Depending on a patient’s complaints and severity of symptoms, all Emergency Department physicians and support staff follow the established protocols to ensure that everyone is aware of what is occurring in regards to a patient’s care.
The arrangement provides a comparable level of care between Sacred Heart Hospital and Lehigh Valley Health Network, provides access to high-quality emergency services to patients in and around downtown Allentown, and gives patients access to more specialists.
The Emergency Department at Sacred Heart Hospital is a facility that offers exceptional care. Our Emergency Department physicians are board certified in areas such as emergency medicine, pediatrics, and internal medicine.
Most of our Emergency Department nurses are certified in emergency nursing, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS).
