it's been over a month now and still till this day I regret having this surgery done.Crying I cry every day, also since my 1st post op check up, I've been sick as a dog. first it was massive pain ,( incision area inflamed) then next day after that, the flu for two weeks. and now I have a ulcer near the opening of my pouch so that is why I have not been able to eat and hold anything down for more then three weeks. I can't even get out of bed some days because I have no energy/strength, and because I've been so sick I have not been able to take my vitamins for maybe a month now. Seriously I did not sign up for this....Angry  wish I never got it done.....

Hmmm....I can undersatand why you feel that way, Jujubee, if you have been sick ever since the surgery.

There are a lot of changes that come with this surgery, physical changes, mental changes, routine changes, emotional changes and psychological changes.    I am so glad that it was a requirement to meet with a psychologist to make sure that I made the right decision about this surgery for myself.

I decided that I was ready to change TOTALLY.  This surgery required me to leave my comfort zone of 47 years and begin as an infant in weight loss and maintenance as a fit person now and I do not regret it and never shall.

Probably your immune system was low to begin with, that is probably why you are having colds, flu and other problems.  Ulcers can happen in anyone, but especially in bariatric patients if they consume regular coffee or tea or smoke, etc.  Or new stomachs are like baby stomachs and we have to treat our stomachs with kid glove care.

I am sorry that you are regretting this and I think that you are experiencing "buyer's remorse".  Once we realize that there is no gong back and we have to deal with our new stomach and rules and routines forever, this can depress some people.  I went thru "buyers remorse" right after getting the surgery and decided to look forward instead of backwards.

What has been done is done, now I had to make a new life, a new path, a new direction.

For me, the RNY surgery has been a lifesaver and I do not regret it despite getting buyer's remorse for 1-2 weeks in 2009.

Perhaps things will get better for you.  Try to tackle each problem head on.  Some of your issues are not related to the surgery.  Some may be.  Try to be strong and to get thru each hurdle.  I am with you in spirit!

Jujubee, It is great that you are reaching out here on the forum.  Do you have any bariatric friends near you whom you can talk to?  Sometimes it helps knowing that the feelings are temporary and that others went through them.

Thank you, Nadia & Marcey for thinking about me, things really have not changed. I had to get an endoscopy twice within two weeks because the opening keeps closing. so I am still not eating and my next step is a reversal and a second opinion... I will let everyone know what is happening... Thanks again.

I'm sorry to hear you are still having such issues.  I know that I had a very rough time after my surgery, yes to the point that I was not eating either and getting very sick but once I got over that hurdle, and barring any major other issues, I am very glad I had the surgery done.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers if that is alright...

I did have an ulcer as well and to this day (1 year later) there are times when I still need the stomach medicine but I take it in stride.

Good luck!!!

Five and a half weeks is not a long time to be expecting to feel great.  I don't there's any of us here who haven't been where you're at.  I know I was.  The first month or so was the worst, but it got better after that, and I wouldn't be surprised if you don't experience the same, especially when the pounds and inches start to melt away.
