I found a good Protein drink at Walmart.  It's called "Pure Protein Shake".  It has 23 grams of protein, only 1 gram of sugar.  It tastes good--reminds me of YooHoo.  I'm drinking the Frosty Chocolate one.  It helps quite a bit - I drink that in the morning instead of a full breakfast, and it does help curb the hunger quite a bit for me.  It's 120 calories.

Thanks for posting this Jim, I'm not a breakfast person in the first place and have been having trouble finding something to "eat" for breakfast. This is a great source of protein with not a lot of sugar.

Be careful.  Do not use protein shakes as meal replacements.  They can be used as a planned snack.  Solid food should be eaten at each of the 3 meals per day.  Otherwise you may jinx yourself and develop hunger and other metabolic situations.   I am saying this because I want everyone to succeed.

I agree with Nadia - unless this is your ONLY means of getting in your protein; do not use a shake as a meal resplacement post WLS.  You need to develop good habits - sitting down & eating three meals per day & a planned snack or two (depending on how far along you are).  Snacks should be protein packed at least the first year.  You can definitely do shakes towards your liquid intake.  You need to get your tummy into the fullness stage three times a day.  Getting protein from meals is the best way of getting protein.

Jim - glad you found something you like and that works for you!  How are you doing otherwise?  Still living in JT?  I'm doing well.  At my place in Palmerton now, 2 years.  And 17.5 weeks pregnant!  Weight is slowly creeping up (as it should be) but still kinda makes me a tad "upset".  After I have the baby (due date is January 27th) I will be working hard to get off any gained baby weight; plus the 20lbs I was up from maintenance.

Agree that ideally you should get your protein at meals from food, but 1 meal per day as a protein shake is acceptable-especially for the "non-breakfast eaters!"

I usually do eat breakfast, and I don't plan on giving it up entirely.  But I do want to skip it sometimes in order to help cut back on the caloric intake.  The protein shake helps cut the cravings, too.  Anything to help me lose some of this weight I gained back.

Last week I got lots of exercise while on vacation--trimming bushes and trees in our back yard and setting up and taking down tables for a flea market we had at our church.  I'm trying to get out and walk more, too.

Hi, Meg!

Yes, otherwise, I'm doing fine.  I'm still in Jim Thorpe, taking care of my parents - they are both 83 and need help with a variety of things, so we share the house there.

We started a new Lions Club in Lehighton - Beltzville Lions - and that keeps me busy, as I am the secretary.  We will be working at the Redneck Festival this weekend - we have the Chinese Auction, the Dunk Tank, and the Redneck Horseshoes.

My advice on protein drink would be it should be taken with care. Packaging foods are at higher risk than profit with respect to health. Always make a wise choice and tradeoff Smile
