Is it okay to add a tsp of peanut butter to my protein shake 2 weeks out?

Reduced fat peanut butter is a good source of additional protein and fat.  It can be added; however, I am not sure since you are 2 weeks post op.   The rules may have changed since I got my surgery.  Maybe Lisa the dietitian can answer your question better since you are just post op.

Nikki,

Peanut butter is okay to have 2 week post op if you are referring to the textures of foods you are able to

tolerate. However, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter has 190 calories and 7 gm of protein, so it's almost not

worth it to consume that amount of fat content for such a small amount of protein. But at this stage in the

game you should be able to tolerate it in a shake if that's what you choose to do. Glad to hear you are doing

so well! Hope to see you this Wednesday at Support Group!

I only put a tsp in just for something different.  But I see what you mean about the fat and cals, I was shocked to think I lived on PBJS all my life :/  Organic PB it is and only in moderation.  It did make my protein drink taste pretty good though haha.. Thanks again!

There is a great bariatric product out there called PB2 made by Bell Plantation.  Check out the Bell Plantation website.  It is only 45 calories for 2 Tablespoons with very low fat content.  Tastes great too.  It is a healthy peanut butter substitute.  It is costly though.  See it online.

I heard about PB2 from Marco, a man who had bariatric surgery with Dr. Holland, some time before me, I believe and from others at St. Luke's.

They all use that product.

I tried peanut butter recently, but it just didn't sit well with me, even the low cal version.  It seems to really gum up my pouch and make me feel very uncomfortable.  I had a little more luck with a version I found at the Giant: Peter Pan Whipped Peanut Butter, which is very soft, in fact soft enough to be "dip-able."  Even then, I couldn't handle more than a teaspoon full.

Give it time, Fr. Michael.  Sometimes what does not agree with us now will do so much later in our weight loss journey.  For me, it was hardboiled eggs and tuna.  Those foods were so dry that I felt that I was choking.  Well, now, they are no longer problem foods for me.
