Wondering how everyone went about preparing.... Like household things, children, etc.

My surgery is June 12th and cannot be any more anxious then I am.

KC, I didn't really do anything to prepare.  For me, I looked at it like a procedure to save my life.  One that was going to change everything about me and for the most part it has.  I am still me, but I have more energy to do things with my children.  I also was not anxious, or so I thought anyway.  Not until the day of.  That day I was the most anxious and almost even left the hospital once I got there but then morning prayers came on and I knew I needed to get this done for my sake, and my children.

Use the forums and support meetings to talk out your feelings.  This is a life-altering procedure, but in my humble opinion, one that can change us for the better.

Good luck!!!

KC, Here is how I prepared for my surgery:

1.  Cleaned the house completely and made it bariatric friendly for the rest of my life.

2.  Bought small plates.  Threw everything else out.

3.  Stocked pantry with wholesome foods and Bariatric Advantage vitamins and protein shakes.

4.  Packed a pillow to take to the hospital to hold to my belly so that I would not feel the bumps on the highway post op.

5.  Prepared a will.  Never had one before.  This was emotional, but it needed to get done.  Why not now, I asked myself?  And did it.

Well, now almost 4 years later, I can truly say that the RNY saved my life and I have a new life.  Thank God for Dr. Holland.

Hi KC,
I just had my surgery on monday and before hand I made sure the house was clean, laundry done etc...I had my kids clothes out and ready for school to make it easier on my hubby. I had food for them ready to go.
Now for me I made sure that I had all the things I would need...lots of different clear liquids and full liquids. I made a shelf for all my "stuff" protein, vits etc... Best wishes all will be wellSmile

KC, Your surgery is in about a month.  It sounds as though you are very ready.  Embrace the changes as they come.

@Nadia.... Yes! I am very ready. Was to see my surgeon yesterday. Everything is on track. I go for my egd on the 22nd and think I'm more scared of it than the surgery.

Oh and did I mention my husband is scared to death. We dont have family that's going to be able to wait with him and he is probably has more anxiety than me....

KC, Suggest that your husband brings a good book to read, or some music to listen to with headphones for about 2 hours.  Then the surgeon will come out to tell him how everything went with your surgery.  It is very normal to be anxious.  I was anxious on my surgery day.  I remember that I kept asking the nurse if I could go to the bathroom to pee.  (And hardly anything came out!!!)  That is nerves.

Everything went very well with my surgery and on June 30th it will be my 4th bariversary and I am glad that I had the RNY with Dr. Holland.  It saved my life from obesity.  It can help you too.
