Can anyone tell me when I would be able to add nuts, cashews, peanuts, almonds, etc., back into my diet.  I really miss nuts and I don't need then sugar coated or anything I can eat them raw or roasted, unsalted doesn't matter but I really do miss them.

Also, since nuts are a bit higher in fat simply because of them being nuts, would I still have to watch out for the dumping syndrome.  I don't mean if I eat a whole bag, I'm only talking about 1/4 cup of nuts having 15 grams of fat.  I'm sure I have been getting more than I really try for but I try to limit myself to less than 8 grams of fat .

Any information would be greatly appreciated.  I am only 4 months out so maybe it is too early to add nuts but they are a great source of protein and like I said I really do miss them.

Thanks a bunch...

Nuts are okay; once you hit at least the "few month mark".  It's really up to you when you want to introduce them; just not before 2 months or so...(like at least wait 8 weeks).

If you choose nuts, like you said, try to make them unsalted or lightly salted & watch your portion sizes.  Some go by "piece" whereas other servings are by ounces, etc...Measure out the suggested serving size, chew very well & you shouldn't have a problem.  All nuts are fatty, but they are the "good fats" so they are okay to have in moderation (a serving a day would be okay).

I prefer almonds and cashews.  I love them!!!

Good luck - some people might have a harder time with digesting; so just be careful.

Thanks Meg, I appreciate your comments.  I will make sure I portion out the nuts and look at the labels for what a portion size really is.  I've been doing pretty good at that lately with everything but every once in a while I just take one bite too much... even if it is within that 1/4 to 1/2 cup.

This week is the start of my 18th week so I think I'm okay for trying it.  So long as it doesn't hurt my stomach I'll keep at it little by little.

I had a small amount of lightly salted cashews. I couldn't get to the health food store to get the raw/unsalted ones and the grocery store I went to was limited.

I think I did okay.  I didn't have any pain in my stomach and I didn't feel sick.  Though I can say i didn't eat but a few, maybe 5 pieces so I will try again in a few days to see if I still tolerate them well.

Thanks,

That's great to try new foods post op to see how we tolerate them.
