Tonight's meeting was an excellent mix of speakers and audience involvement.  Lisa's educational and informative presentation about heart disease was excellent.  It is interesting to hear about the apple and pear body shapes and their being prone to heart disease.   Thanks Dr. Holland for answering my questions.   Bravo to the gentlemen speaker and his family whose weight loss and story were incredible.  The ribbon presentations were an added touch and a nice way for us to celebrate our successes.    Thanks to everyone who organized the support group meeting.

Thanks Meghan for your warm greeting.  I looking forward to next month's meeting because from what I understand, we will be moving around in some form of exercise, I think I heard them announce.

I took my second yoga class this evening in East Stroudsburg and was surprised that I could lift my whole body up like a push up and then carry it down to the floor.  I was never able to do that before because the weight was weighing me down.  Yoga this evening was refreshing, mind-clearing and truly a wonderful experience for destressing.

Hi, Nadia! I wanted to introduce myself to you at the last meeting but missed my chance. It's nice to see someone else from the area attending the meetings. I live in Stroudsburg, the Cherry Valley section. I had my surgery 9.27.10 and have lost 62 pounds since then. I hope I can do better now that I joined a small gym.
Anyway, I just wanted to say "Hi" and hope to see you at the next meeting. BigGrin

Hi Tina!  It is good to know that someone else from the Poconos is also attending the bariatric meetings at Sacred Heart.  I will look for you at the next meeting.  I usually sit near the front.  Tina, I live in Winona Lakes in the Marshalls Creek area between East Stroudsburg and Bushkill, so I am just a few miles away from you.  Who was your surgeon?  Dr. Holland performed the RNY surgery on me at St. Luke's on 6-30-2009.  I started at 360 lbs., lost down to 326 lbs.  before my surgery and now weigh 178 lbs.

On Monday nights, I run/jog with First Strides at Stroudsburg Intermediate School on Chipperfield Dr.  It is very good exercise and I have run in several 5K races and one 5 miler.  My next 5K run is on April 9th in Knowlton, NJ and then on June 12th in Hanover Twp, PA.  For exercise, I do 2 miles on the treadmill every morning before work in the winter and then I walk 2 1/2 to 3 miles at lunchtime additional.  When the weather warms up, I do not use the treadmill as I prefer my nature walks in Winona Lakes, or the state forests.  On Fridays, I started yoga classes.

Which gym did you join?

Looking forward to meeting you soon.  Be well.

Hi, Nadia! I joined the Stroudsmoore Inne's fitness center for now. Very small and intimate, plus I can use the pool and hot tub afterwards! I love walking in the Cherry Valley section where I live but it's just TOO cold right now and I don't do well with cold fingers and toes!
I had my surgery with Dr. Okolicha 9/27/10. At the beginning (3/18) I weighed in @ 326, 295 the day of surgery and am currently 231! BigGrin I feel sooo good and have so much fun trying on clothes now! (Of course, my favorite place to do so is at the Sally!) I would love to do a 5K some day. Hopefully within the next 6 mos!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Thanks, Meg! It's sooo good to be back. Stupid computer virus! Biggest lesson learned: AVG 8 is NOT an updated version of AVG!!!!!

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Tina Louise,

When I first moved to the Poconos from Pittsburgh, I had a 90 day swimming pool membership at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn.  It is an awesome place up on the hill with a spectacular view.  Those homes up on the mountain are pricey with a VIEW in each direction.  My favorite place to bring Pocono visitors for scenic photography is that ridge just behind the reception house where all the married couples pose for their wedding shots.

You are doing very well with your weight loss.  It is nice to meet someone from the Poconos.
