Post a list of current bariatric surgeons on the web forum (not just on the SHH website), ALONG W/ THEIR STATS.  I had several people message me/email me asking about stats of one of the surgeons. 

 On the forum - separate out topics to be more specific to those who had the band and/or RNY (instead of "generic" categories like "pre-op" "post-op".

Continue w/ "Helping Hands Nominations" at support group (I haven't been to an SHH group in a LONG time; but plan on attending as much as possible in the New Year, so this may have been something that is currently going on).  It was a way for someone to nominate someone else that has been a great help/inspiration to on, so forth. 

Giving out certificates when goals are reached (some sort of special recognition at a meeting).

Having a "buddy system" in place, whereas as a new pre-op/post-op can have the name/email/number (whatever) of someone who is further out than them, that they can keep in contact with throughout their journey (someone to help hold them "accountable").

When publishing the newsletter, feature a patient with a before/after story. 

A back on track program that's FREE and doesn't cost a boatload of money......

Recognize anniversaries of weight loss at meetings....

A few other suggestions after attending tonight's meeting:

1.  Have the "registration/sign-in" table out in the front of the auditorium (that's where it used to be) and stage your greeters out there.  I'm not opposed to change; but that's the way it used to be.  That way you "hit" everyone to sign in right when they entered, rather than all the way up front? 

2.  Make everyone aware of the forum & how to sign on (maybe have a little simple demonstration on how to "navigate" the forum.

3.  We spoke a bit about parking - suggest parking in the parking deck that closest to the entrance to the auditorium (not sure of the entrace name).  It's easy access to the meeting. 

4. Use the "list-serve" of email addy's to let everyone know of upcoming meetings/special events. 

5.  Possibly add an "email" column to the sign-in sheet so that way you can keep in contact w/ those who attend meetings.....

6.  When I started at SHH (and this carried through to the other program I am associated with) - we used to have name tags that separated people from post-op to pre-op to "support people".  A certain color tag would be for pre-op, another color for post-op and a third color for supporters (people who are at the meeting supporting family/friends). 

Again....just a few suggestions......

I think the meeting went very well - but I hope to see more people out & about.

Hi Tammy!!!

So good to "see" you on here!  I will definitely be at tonight's meeting :-)  Did you do the fashion show back in April of 2008?  I'm sure that's when we originally met, but I could be mistaken.

Anyhow, it was nice to hear your story at last month's meeting.

I was wondering if you would consider coming to talk to our group (or joining in) for people who are 2-3+ years post-op who are struggling?  Listening to you speak, it almost seems as though you have no struggles right now, but we would certainly love to have you come to the meetings, if there is something you'd like to share with us.

 Sorry I didn't see you there tonight. Lisa Close asked me if she could pass along my phone number and email address to you and I told her sure. Call me and we can chat. Does your group always meet on Thursdays? I hope not. Thursday evenings don't work for me because I belong to a weight loss support group called TOPS and we meet every Thursday from 6:30 pm-8:00 pm. I have been going to it for 9 years and i don't usually miss. I hope it works out that you meet at a different time and I can come because I would LOVE to. Call my cell # when you can! Thanks Megs for coming to the support group and all the great suggestions.  We plan to implement many of things that you suggested back into support group.  Best wishes for your continued success.

Tammy - sorry I was not able to make the meeting this past month Sad  I ended up making a "last minute" doctor's appointment w/ my family doc, to talk meds & I got the only appt. left for the day; which was at 5:30 and there was just not enough time to drive down after Sad  BOOOO HOO.  Sounds like I missed some good stuff. 

Unfortunately, for now, our old-timers group is on a Thursday evening.   Wednesdays did not work for a lot of people.  It will (always) be the 1st Thursday of the month.  Hope maybe at some point, you could pop your head in to our group. 

I will program your # in my phone & hopefully maybe catch up this weekend sometime or possibly sometime next week.
