I've been meaning to post about this for a while now.  When I was about three months out, I began losing my hair -- I guess I should call it "thinning."  Everytime I washed my hair, I would end up with hair tangled between my fingers.  By four months out it was a bit worse.  My hairdresser helped by shortening my hair (less in the drain) and giving me soft bangs (no hairline where you could see the thinning).  Over time I noticed less and less coming out in the shower or in my brush, etc.

At about 7 months out, my hairdresser noticed that I had lots of new hair coming in!!  Woo hoo!!!  But since I had so many very short hairs, he decided to give me lots of layers so that it wasn't as obvious.

So, while we are all different, I thought I'd share my hair story with you.  It's just a phase we go through.  Yes, as I lose weight, I become a bit vain.  I want to look good.

As I approach 8 months out, I feel great, my hair is coming back in, and I think I look pretty good.  Hehe

Barb,

That is great news for you!  Unfortunately for me that is not the case.   I am 10 months and still having thinning.  It is much less but it is really scaring me.  I keep changing my hair style from side to side but the "thin" area is very noticable tome.  People tell me they don't see it but I think they are just trying to be nice.

Aside from the hair , I love my new look.  I am now wearing a size 6 from a size 18.  Wow what a great feeling.

Hi Linda, I never used the Nioxin shampoo but I do take Biotin every day so I wonder if that has helped.  I didn't take it early on but I've been taking it the last two months or so.

Hi Nikki, I think weightloss slows for all of us.  Even if we are all different.  Tongue  For me, I find that exercise helps.  I know that most don't want to hear this.  w00t   Not just cardio, but doing weights seems to help burn the calories a bit more.

Hi Girls!

I am almost one and a half years from surgery.  I also had loss of hair for over a year, but now it is growing back in very nicely.  I take Biotin every day (per Dr. Holland) and it works well.  It's a small price to pay for weight loss.  I'll take the thinning hair, along with the thinning body!!!!!  Nikki... I am so happy to hear that you are doing so well.  Keep up the good work!  You look great!

I've been wondering when the thinning will stop.  I too cut my hair short because I was sick of cleaning out the drain and the bathroom floor.  My husband told me I am shedding more than our cats.

Somedays seem worse, some days better.  No one has yet to notice but my hairdresser.  My husband even said if he didn't see it himself he wouldn't know to look at my hair, BUT I can tell.

I can't wait till it stops.

Nikki-my weight loss slowed way down too but I have noticed that if I exercise I lose more.  I got an exercise bike for Christmas and I asked my husband if I could have it early, so he put it together for me.  I was just so sick of walking in the cold and crappy weather.  I also try to do light weights.

I am out about a yr and 4 months...in the beginning i did loose hair alot of it! It has slowed down since about a yr out. I have not taken anything or used special hair products...as my protein intake went up I noticed my hair isn't falling out as much. Your hair will be better once you are up to eating your full 60 grams of protein and making sure you eat the protein first. I opted to not cut my hair before surgery (some people did)...I think that helped bc I am one of those people with a ton of hair...so when i was losing alot of hair it wasn't noticable.

I did go thru alot tho bc even when i was fat i had my hair...that was my pride...(i didn't have a body) lol! I always was proud of my hair and when it started falling out i found my self so upset even crying. Just to let you guys know it will get better. Even if its not fully back to what it was it will get betterSmile
